Default Fitting a Centre Stand on an SV

I'm still trying to get used to not having a centre stand on a bike - I just changed to an SV from a CB500.

I like to FILL the smallish fuel tank, so I was briefly nonplussed on the first fill-up, when I realised on the forecourt that there wasn't a centre stand to staighten it up . . . .

Does anyone know where I can obtain an after-market centre stand.
Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

I've been told how dangerous is the practice of sitting atride the bike as you fill up. If a drop of fuel spills onto a hot component, you can barbeque your nadgers - amongst other things!

I think SW Motech do an after market stand for your bike, They used to be available from Motohaus who are in Basingstoke. I can't recall their telephone number but I'll look it up tomorrow and get back to you
Cheers

i think you're more likely to blow your nadgers right off. But i think its fairly unlikely - petrol needs an awful lot of heat or a naked flame to set it off.

I think the only drawback with a centre stand is reduced ground clearance on cornering. Oh and the price - its about £115 iirc. I'd like one myself so if you do fit one, let me know how it goes

I have the SW Motech stand on mine. I got it from M&P. I only paid ~£79 in late 2003, but M&P may have been importing direct. They are now listed as one of Motohaus' dearlers, so may be selling at the higher price indicated earlier (~£111).

i may have asked this before but - i believe the kit comes with a handle which fits somewhere to the rear of the bike for hoisting it onto the centre stand. Is this necessary? Can it be done with the existing grab rail?

Motohaus's number is:01256 704909. They aren't a bad bunch to deal with and usually hold good stocks and get it out to you pretty quickly.

Cheers

Just sit on the bike when you fill it up...

... but if you want to turn your SV into a CB650.. talk to Nick762 who has done just that - by fitting a centre stand

I personally have concerns about ground clearance once the stand has been fitted. Footpegs are designed to move if they touch the ground - the stand won't.
