I'm contemplating getting a a larger back wheel for my 00 SV650 something from a GSXR in Magnesium. Is it worth the Money and Effort?

not sure if it will make it handling better or not, but certainly will make the bike look better IMO.
And OM... your avatar is too big m8... had to pan across to read the messages. |

It will make the bike turn quicker, though you might find that the bike will get a bit wobbly at higher speeds. My old CB had a slightly larger tire and it seemed to be fine, have a word with the fitter they should be able to give you a better idea.

What's a rebore got to do with tyre size?

Not wishing to be contentious but I was under the impression that a wider back tyre actually makes the bike turn in SLOWER. I believe this as many 999(190) owners have dropped the rear tyre to the same as the 749(180) in order to make their bikes a bit more flickable.

A 170-180 section rear will slow the turn in down, and generaly makes the handling of the SV poor. However, its up to you.

The old tyre thingy
![]() Good/interesting thread on the topic for you on SVrider http://forum.svrider.com/viewtopic.php?t=40630 It's not about just putting a wider rim. Same as putting in a Gixer shock, Gixer frontend etc. It's got the potentional to be all you want but IMHO you have to put in some setup work. The thing is a lot of peeps gone on about something they have not even tried. This week read about GSXR racers in British supersports using 190s' instead of the 180 tyre so what's that all about then. Cheers Ben |

Titter, titter, sorry missed the poll thingy regarding rebore! Very funny! Why try to turn something in to what it is not? Upgrade if you want a tadge more power dont butcher your SV.
I think the slow turn in by using a bigger rear tyre might be negated somewhat with the use of race tyres, but on the road? A definite no,no as far as I am concerned. I think this is more about you wanting a trick magnesium wheel than anything else!? ![]() ![]() My avatar shows my bike, which is just an SV with it's party clothes on! ![]() ![]() |
