Default DERESTRICTINGA K3?????

Desperately struggling on this.

Ive had my SV for year and a half now and am finally legal to replace the 33bhp restrictor kit. Where I bought the bike P&H Crawley seem to think that its going to cost me a further £100 for them to replace the 'restrictor kit' which to me just looks like it should plug into to somewhere on the bike?

Im more than a little reluctant to pay them the extra £100, especially after having to pay them £150 for it in the first place!

Any advice greatly received. Cheers

Hmmm.. not sure about this! I'm not a techy by any stretch of the imagination!! I think on carb bikes a restrictor essentially is like a washer which narrows aperture of the carb (or something like that!? - can someone enlighten me!!!) I'm sure this would involve removal of the carburettors to puit in place and remove (I'm sure this wouldn't be too hard - but the dealer will charge you through the nose for it). How this translates to the fuel injected models though I'm not sure, although I'm inclined to think it may be a reprogram of the ECU, in which case 100 notes seems very steep, as I'm sure it'd take them about 5 minutes to do!!

Like I said though I'm only guessing here!!! sorry!

congratulations on becoming de-restricted BTW

Hey mate
Congrats! i still have 18 weeks to go!!

Now the K3 is restricted by the ecu, the plug in box!
This should have been given to you when you had the bike restricted, ready for de restricting,
If they did not give this too you then they have been very naughty as they are effectivly trying to sell you sommat that you origionally bought with the bike!

So ring them, and tell then that it is you ecu and you want it now! failure to give you what you origionally bought will result in them being reported to suzuki customer service!!!!

If that fails, call www.cheshiremotorcyclesalvage.co.uk and they bound to have one in stock, its an unplug, plug in job!!!

sorry to hear that they have cocked you about, give em a ticking off.

there trying to sell you whats already legally yours!!!

Hope this helps

Alex

So, not that it worries me, but just how is the K3 restricted? Software in the ECU or hardware in the throttle body?

not sure about a K3 but i de restricted my own- after my 2 years of course...

wa just pet tank off...air box off... to reveal the 2 carbs...loosen the circlips and bob off the whole gold/silver carb aseembly..flip out the 2 washers with the restricting narrower gauge...and lob it all back together and voila !! you now have circa 69BHP...instead of 33...

and now all u need to do is tone ya neck muscles up !! cos its hell f a difference and knocks ya back a bit at first....but the 140 is awesome ..and acceleration hellishly better!!.
dont let anyone tell ya that its only top end that is diff when restricted!!

Hi,
My K3 was restricted with the 2 washers mentioned in previous post. However, there is also another part added. It is basically a small "gas travel stop". It is attached where the throttle cables end at the carb. It stops the valves from opening fully. The kit came from F1 international.
If this is how yours is restricted, do not pay £100 to have it removed. It can be very easily removed if you wish to do it.
I can send you a scan of the remains of the german fitting instructions that the dealer salvaged from the bin for me.

P&H Are just down the road from me, and though they have a lovely shiney refurbished shop, and lots of nice things to buy there, they're expensive, and I've heard a lot of bad stories about their workmanship.

The Brighton branch is supposed to be far far better.

The restriction on the K3, is a replacement ECU, and so long as you still have the old one (you should do, it came with the bike that you paid for), then it's just a case of removing the front seat, disconnecting the restricted one, and reconnecting the original.

Welcome to the site
