On a few fast rides i have noticed that the bike wobbles around the fast bends on the back roads. (near Sherburn...and roads to Sun Inn near harrogate)
And accelerating on bumpy roads gives a little tank slapper. I know that the suspension on the SV isn't the best in the world, but i was not expecting it to be this bad. As i know nothing about suspension set up i have left it from when i bought it. The guy who had it before me has the rear shock on the highest setting (to me it looks like the second to top notch) and the front has no lines showing. I weigh 11 and a half stone without my bike gear on. What do i need to do? Im not bothered about a comfy ride....just a stable one Cheers SPeeeeDY |

I had the same problems, I set the rear preload third step from lowest, and the front preload fully out with the fith line showing which helped but if you've got some cash, go for shorter dogbones and fork internals. I got mine sorted on thursday, the dogbones and hyperpro progressive springs, it wasn't cheap including the set-up but as soon as i started moving it felt like a different bike, a lot more focused.

cheers A-jay, if you dont mind, how much and where from. Was the place that fitted them a suspension specialist or just a normal bike shop?

i had the same hoppyness too. But I payed someone to set mine up. He added 20 or 25 cc's of fork oil as well as setting the spring in the back and preload in front. He also rasied the forks about 10mm in the clamps. Now it turns in great and doesn't bounce around on ripples and uneven pavement.

I went to seastar near norwich, they are a kawasaki dealer but have a big service department and a lot of them race so there pretty clued in the bouncy bits deparment (o'er). I paid £30 for the dogbones and £110 for the fork springs and oil etc, and the labour for fitting both and set up was £100. So £230 all in but worth every penny!!!
Hyperpro also a progressive rear spring if you don't fancy the dogbones, the quote i got for the rear springs, fork internals fitting and set up was £300. Don't think you would need that though as you only weigh a bit more than me. |

I think the settings are much too hard for the road (even for the track) go back to standard settings go out and see how it feels, take 3psi out of your front tyre and 2psi out of your rear, when the tyres warm up it should be ok, if still bad put one less line from standard on front preload

Get your backside out of Yorkshire and go to see the Fud. Suspension consultant to the Pennine Massive.
