Can anyone recomend a good bike electrics engineer in the London area ?
My mate has an ER-5 and the bike just cut out on him, so he took it the a mechanics in north london and they said that the 'cdu' unit had blown so it was sent away to get repaired. They had the bike for two weeks and also changed the battery, alternator and regulator and said that the bike was fine now. Picked it up and he noticed that the rev counter wasn't working so took the bike back ( after waiting for a week for them to fit it in ) after having the bike all day they then said that although they couldn't find what was wrong with it there wasn't a chance in hell that they could have caused the counter not to work. He even said that they were working on the back end off the bike and that the counter was on the front so it couldn't be them ![]() ![]() Sorry if that's a bit long winded but the cheek of the shop was unreal, trying to say he must have broke it during the week when he told them straight away after picking the bike up,admiting that they didn't really check it properly and comming out with any old bull so they wouldn't accept any responsibity. ![]() Thanks in advance Glenn |

The CDI is the black box that makes the spark plugs work, if it pops then you get no sparks. This is unlikely to happen on its own but still anything can happen. If it's dead it goes in the bin and you get a new one, no repairs, it isn't even possible because of the way they make them. If the regulator/rectifier unit goes it can toast the alternator, tacho (electronic ones), battery and CDI if you're unlucky. If the engine won't turn, you have to wonder if the tacho was done in at the same time - you have no way of knowing till the engine runs again after all. That said, for one RR to take all this stuff with it would be quite unlucky. Only way to know for sure is get all the old bits back off them (these are your property even if they've clapped) and take them with you to the new shop for it all to be checked out.
Can't recommend anyone I'm afraid, not in the area. |

Cheers for that johnnyrod,
His bike is running ok apart from the rev counter not working, also when he asked for a list of tests, repairs whish were done to the CDI unit which they said was sent to Kawasaki for repairs they said that they didn't have one ? I'll give him your advice about getting the other parts back from the shop though thety've probably binned then by now. Cheers, Glenn |
