Default help !! bike won't start...thanks all XX

I know that people have probably asked this a million times but I think i have flooded the engine...or maybe its more serious - i don't know.

I got the bike yesterday and have just backed it out of the yard and when i try to start it it just clicks and makes a hissing sound.....

Check the battery leads are tight,

If not check the starter lead, you have a short and it can damage the leads at least, or even melt the terminals.

not really. my instructor came round and bump started it. then it worked fine. but then when it got cold started doing it again.

he recokons either the battery is dead or i have a loose connection as it storting out is that is what the clicking was.

Clicking sound was coming from a green box on the right hand side.

dunno what i am gonna too as am relying on my bike this week.

I have breakdown with my insurance, does not mention anything about having to be away from home. Is it worth a try? either that or will hame to get a mechanic to pick it up.

I got a warrenty with my bike but the place is in york which is 30 miles away. i just don't know what to do

A couple of options....
1) Put the battery on charge for a cycle, if you have a charger.
2) Bump start the bike and take it for a long ride.

If you go for a long ride and the regulator/rectifier is working you will get a charge in your battery, and it will start fine, you could just have a dead battery or it could be dodgy and needs replacing.

If you charge it up, and it works for a while, then wont start it could be a bad regulator/rectifier (from memory, im not a mechanic), and your battery is ok.

Hope that helps
Dan

Thanks guys, think I will buy a charger tommorrow and see if that works.

Have realised I won't need the bike on tuesday so I think I will take wednesday off if the charger doesn't work

I have also noticed that my insurance with ebike has home start so will give them a call on wednesday.

Hi Jenni
I'd say the first thing is to get onto the dealer, it's what your warranty is for!

I'm sure it's frustrating but it's probably not a major problem and will easily be sorted.

If the bike had been in the dealer's showroom for a while, the battery may well have been sitting discharged for some time which will mean it's probably had it. It's just one of those things.

If you can get over to them, tell them you want a new battery and for them to check that it's charging properly on the bike, including when the lights are on.

As others have said, it's a fairly common problem on the SV for the regulator/rectifier to fail, and if it is faulty it will probably cause a new battery to fail too, so it must be checked. It's not a difficult thing to check, basically a multi-meter and about 5mins work.

Thanks embee, I will be. i just have to get it started first!

I think if i call out the breakdown people when i have a day off then I can ride it back to the dealers.

To be honest i'm really down today but hearing it start after the bump made me feel a bit better. If anything the ride to york should be good experience again, and if all is well I might stop by squires on the way home.

I'm just peeved it had to happen to me

Im impressed that the instructor bumped it off :P

I would still get it looked at asap because it may do some more damage, it sounds like the battery lead is loose.

An apprentice who did the PDI maybe :P
