Following the advice of all the experts on this site I have invested in an Optimate and found the lead you fix to the bike too short to put it where I had originally planned to put it in the gap where the grab rail used to be.
So I though a quick canvas of thoughts before I stick it somewhere and find out it gets cooked, flooded, shorted, forgotten about or otherwise found to be a stupid place to put it. Obvious choices seem to be:- 1) Under the pillion seat but have to take seat off each time to charge. 2) Just in front of airbox cover side plate thingy but may get too hot/wet 3) Wedged under the side of the front seat 4) Between the front seat and the step up to the pillion but may get squashed when 15 stone of idiot slams into it each time right hand gets carried away. 5) Extend the wiring and put it where I had originally planned to put it in the first place. Opinions gratefully received. I do not really want to over engineer a solution by cutting out square holes in cover plates or anything else that required finesse to not look like a dogs breakfast. Cheers, Mark |

Mines:
1) Under the pillion seat but have to take seat off each time to charge. Taking the seat off is a 2 second job, and it keeps things out of the way! RR |

mines behind the plastic grill bit on the rhs. Means i have to undo the allan bolt to get to it.
But the guy who owned the bike before me had routed it there so i just use it.

If you've got the pointy and done as a lot of people have and locked the toolkit under the seat then you have a handy little waterproof(ish) compartment to mount it in.
