Default warning, gravel spill wandsworth roundabout

coming home about 1130 last night, crappy road conditions anyway, cold, wet and windy. not helped by a layer of gravel over the wandsworth bridge r'bout, mainly near the exit onto trinity road and more by the exit into armoury way. it also continues down towards the one way system. looks like it has spilled off the back of a truck.

i was very lucky not to come off, it caused me to run very wide on the r'bout, luckily avoided a cab which was to my left, and nothing else was near by but it could have been worse. a sphincter tightening moment i can tell ya!

am also going to report this to wandsworth borough council, they've been prompt in the past at clearing up. take care in the meantime if you are going that way.

sounds like a lucky escape, it doesn't help that the road surface there is pants as well! Hmm, now there's a thought - you couldn't get the council to sort that out at the same time could you??

glad you made it thru that. i have a fair bit of that round my way from time to time but there are no obvious building works going on local to blame it on.

Maybe worth having a word with that big development behind the Mikky Dees there. Unless thats well finished now. Been a while since i graced wandsworth with my presence.

There is a very good designer clothing factory outlet there tho so i may well get there before xmas and get a few things

Lets hope the council have got round to clearing it up by then

The A3 road from Wandsworth, battersea and on Westminister Bridge is a disgrace.

theres more lumps of Cement /Concrete / gravel on the road where bikes filter and its seriously not funny.

What I dont understand is why the council don't get these cleaned up, and when the concrete/cement sets, why they dont break it up and remove it.

RizlaSV, whats the TfL view on this stuff, do they have any power to help sort it out?

hmm, not sure whether it's actually TfL or the council along that stretch, but you could try sending a complaint to TfL customer services?

One of the worst bits of road in my book is the stretch past the new flats & Heliport along Lombard Rd - there a whopping great ditch across the road at one point which bottoms out your forks unless you really gas it over!

thats the slight right bend before the lights? I think thats a hump not a ditch, in the right hand lane, gets worse the closer to the far right you take the hump.

Interestingly TfL replied to my email...

Your concerns were passed to our Steward. We instructed them to inspect the condition of the carriageway and clean as appropriate. Added to this, we have asked them to check development sites in the area to ensure that adequate wheel washing and cleaning is being undertaken and to take all necessary action to insure that muck on the highway is immunised. They have also been asked to inspect on a regular basis to ensure that the highway is kept reasonably clean.

So lets see if that road gets any better.
