Default Spraying rear hangers & footrests??

I've got a K5 and am toying with the idea of spraying the pillion footpegs and hangers black to match the frame. Is there any treatment/primer etc that needs to be done to the ally parts before spraying?

Also does anyone know if theres a suzuki colour code for the black on the frame so I can get a good match?

Cheers

Dean

Get them powder coated / stove enamelled.

I would not have thought that the spray idea would last for too long before it started to peel off. I reckon Scoobs has the better idea.

If you never carry pillions, it'll be OK just to spray them with regular paint. If you do, it won't last. If you use wheel paint or similiar it'd be fairly tough, but it's not designed for friction wear- ordinary cellulose car paint and laquer would be, basically, rubbish.

Powdercoating's good, but I wouldn't think it'd work well for the footpegs- could make them slippy. I doubt it'd last well on the footpeg faces either. Also, it's too thick to be used on the hinge, so you'd have a silver bit. Maybe you could fit some of those anodised ones?

Anodise them maybe?

Thanks for replies.

I'll try and get my old bent rear brake pedal powder coated in work to see how it comes out. We powder coat metal office equipment that we manufacture but everyone I spoke to in work was said it'd be cr@p if exposed to the elements??
Maybe there's different grades of powder or something?

It'd be nice if it turns out ok because we do a textured black which could work nicely to provide better grip.

I'll keep you posted, thats if the boss will let me do it.

well, been looking at hangers for pillion footrests... the pegs themselves dont appear to be painted... but the hanger itself is, and its rust or something forcing the paint off.... looks crappy... as it all bubbles up, paint comes off, and leaves exposed oxidised aluminium underneath.... yuck!
