im reading the haynes manual and discover that the metal slides on the internals of the forks has worn there teflon coating off anf beggining to show the copper underneath.... now according to the haynes that means i should replace these bits too? but with the fork dust caps also being needed as corrosion has set in... thats a bleeding fortune !!
i have just checked and the dust caps are £20 a pair and the new slides will be £30 !!!! can i get away without replacing them? my heart is tellinmg me that i didnt notice anything was wrong before? Advice comments please... Alex |

Reassemble it, (don't put the seals in), if you feel any play then the bushes are duffed, if you don't they're fine, it's not unusual to find the bushes look very worn but seem to work fine.

Are you sure of your prices? I'm absolutely sure I didn't pay that much for my dust seals... And I think i replaced the bushings when I coated the forks too, and if I did they werent that much. Could be wrong though.

I got them from my dealership... I often get a 10% discount but even so, I'm sure all the bits didn't come to that much. As for whether you should do it, pass...
I might still have the bushings out of the damaged forks I bought for the sliders... I chucked most of those bits out but I think I kept the small and interesting bits. I'll have a look.
