This is an easy one, an speeding fine (to arrive) that is getting messy for not having my insurance papers up to date..... (have insurance though)
Do you know who is he? I am at the office now and I cannot spend time searching through the posts.... I have spent half of the morning in the police station already. Ahhhh..... learning lessons the hard way!!! |

Got stopped by the Thames Valley for speeding on the 15th of January, everything cool, everybody nice and they handed me a paper to be delivered
to a police station near home with my insurance papers. Turns out that the Insurance company never sent me the final Insurance Certificate and I was going around with a provisional one 24 June - 24th July. (I knew, but I didn't really care, I knew that I had insurance, I had the policy number and all the needed number for emergencies. So I call to the company the following morning and I request a proper certificate and, by the way (big error), change my address because I changed of address after two months of getting the bike. Now... they sent me a proper certificate that starts on the 22th of January!!!! 1st visit following Saturday .... nice poliman gives me 7 days more to fix the thing of the date on the papers, officially I am uninsured. Call insurance on Monday, they tell me that there is no way can produce a backdated certificate on the old address. Only if the police sends a fax or a solicitor asks for it they will produce it.. cool 2nd visit on Thursday night, I get a "no so nice" policeman that basically says he is not the one having to do paperwork to prove that I have insurance. Call the company and sort it out!!! (for peter's sake, it's only a fax man!!) Call insurance next morning.. there is no no no no no way they will produce it is not the police/solicitor who does the request. 3rd visit Yesterday night... the guy behind the counter tells me to come in office hours and try to convince whoever is in his place in the morning to call the insurance company. This morning.. lovely lady speaks with the insurance and, after consulting with a colleage, decides that is going to start a case against me for not being able to produce the certificate of insurance... Cool.... so... basically... I didn't receive any notification for the speeding one, but I fear the trip to court for the insurance papers is going to raise the speeding thing back(one day to go, 13 days passed with no notification) So basically.. I need a solicitor to get the papers from the insurance and get ready to whatever long painful process comes.... So that's it!!! I am stuffed!!! not being a catastrophist.. but so far I am not doing very well handling it... ![]() |

I knew someone that had a slightly different problem where the insurance company didn't change their certificate after they fitted or removed a personalised plate.
Apparently (going on what the person told me mind) they got a letter from the insurance stating that they would have been covered - although not a backdated certificate. However the police still tried to do them for it. So they had their day in court and the case was thrown out. Pity the filth are too busy chasing people like you when they could be down my road tonight stopping all the drunken chavs from kicking the mirrors off cars. They just don't do themselves any favours when it comes to winning the support of the law abiding public. |

That's the thing!!!
Instead of taking 5 minutes writing a three lines cover letter ("Please send Insurance certificate for Mr ...." ), 2 minutes faxing it and making me wait in the hall for a few hours they are going to make me going to court, waste the judges time and produce loads of paperwork for something that is going to be scrapped straightaway... maybe with a fine for not keeping up to date the papers (but still acomplishing the law, paperwise) Fuf... let's see how it goes... |

Failing to produce is a pain in the **** when you are legal, and you just can't prove it. Years ago I got a producer, got home could not find my license. So took in other docs and was cautioned for failing to produce license.
A month later I gets a summons for failing to produce my license and on the damm summons it says "Further investigation established that Mr Wilkinson did hold a full entitlement to drive that class of vehicle". Take the day off work to plead my case. How do you know you have lost your license until you look for it and if Swansey were more efficient I would have had the duplicate in time to comply with the 5 day period. As it was the duplicate came 8 days after I was stopped. Fined £25.

here endeth the lesson. Be more organised and none of you would go through this. I can lay my hands on all my documents at anytime. Sorry, you only have yourself to blame. And to be honest if you have moved, then your insurance would have been null and void anyhoo.
I hope that you get it sorted anyway. |

I know I know... evertyhing is my fault... but... right to moan?
I'm telling you that I have all the papers always well placed, but never understood the seriousness and the amount of troubles this could cause... As I said.. by the hard way... |

Yeah always pays to keep your docs up to date and in a safe place.
A friend of mine got caught drink driving and whilst they were at it they did him for not physically having a driving licence - he'd lost it and not bothered replacing it due to the cost (although he could afford beer and fags ![]() I guess when they do you for one thing they try to get you for anything else they can at the same time. Was it a particularly naughty speeding offence? |
