Had my first day of DAS today and i REALLY enjoyed it... brilliant but off topic already!
![]() Am considering buying new - i've thought about all the stuff about binning a new bike etc, but new fairings on a k5 will cost the same as a k3 and i want the bike to be my own, i've never owned new car before, but could afford a new bike! What is the best way to go about it? I've seen a Red SV650S K5 for £3995 in George White's Swindon. I assume this will come with the 2 years free servicing offer because it was all stickered up. I will add an alarm and crash bungs... when i've passed i'll go in and get a proper quote. Any thoughts? |

Sounds a good deal to me, Just make sure you dont fit the suzuki crash bungs as if you are unlucky enough to drop your bike the brackets bend / snap as they are made of cheese.

It's lovely to have a new bike, but I almost certainly won't be buying new ever again.
The moment you roll out of the dealers the bike will make it's largest depreciation in value. I would let somebody else take that hit. More than a few people have picked up absolute bargains. Almost brand new bikes for £1000 less than they cost and now is the best time to do that. As for the price, that's on the good side of the normal prices. No ideas about the dealers, though. |

I think the service offer is for the first three services(600,4000,8000 mile)or two years whichever comes first.Still a good deal.Bear in mind your insurance costs though, and good luck with it.

yes depreciation... hmm, still i am getting the SV because i think it will out-perform my skills for a few years yet so will be hanging onto it for some time. Bike depreciation isn't as severe as a car, looses less and levels off quicker because they are cheap in the first place. but a VERY good point.
I will have a look about for nearly new models, but i am keen on buying from a dealer rather than private... and i'd rather pay £4k for a new bike than £3.2k for a 2nd hand one. I might just be gettting over excited and heading fro a fall, please tell me if i sound stupid! |

If you are going to keep it for a long time then a heavily discounted new one with the services makes sense.Just look after it.

I'm buying a brand new bike next. I dont care about the depreciation ( though its a good point and someting to bear in mind )
Reasons, well I could have bought a new bike with all the money I've spent on mine putting the niggles, things that were broken due to neglect by the previous owners. I do alot of miles though so some of this cost is down to wear and tear. I just like the idea of having a new bike and then knowing that everything has been done to my satisfaction the way I want it done. However if you can find last years model in a dealer wanting to clear stock you can save alot of money. My current dealer has K5 GSXR-600 & 750's discounted by nearly a £1000 which is a big saving. The servicing offer at the moment on new bikes that suzuki are doing is worth bearing in mind to.

Something everybody needs to understand about depreciation....
You buy new becasue you can afford to and want to, not because you're making an investment. I lost a packet on my GSXR because I put so many miles on it in such a short time, but I bought it to ride it, not look at it..... If I could afford to, I'd buy new every time. . |
