Default First Track day done - much fun was had!

HAd my first track day on Friday at Oulton Park, was nervous @ first but had a great time! the little sv kept up well with the rest of the pack dispite being considerabley down on power compared to most of the sports 600/1000cc.

Didn't get overtaken too much (some guys on proper track bikes or 1000cc)and was pleased at how I did.

The sv rode well but was horrible in corners when I tried braking a bit late and starting to lean in, when i came off the brakes it drifted sideways, felt very unsettling.

If I rode a bit more sensibily it performed very well and kept up and passed much faster bikes (daytona 600, fazer 600, fazer 1000 plus a few more I can't remember and my personal favorite a brand new R1- 3 times in the twisties!!!! WOOHOO!!)

If you have not done track day then I really recommend it, think of the best bit of road you have ever found, take off all the road furniture and cars, the danger of being pulled out on and deisel spills and your nearly there! Then you get to go round and round it and learn the corners properly with loads of like minded other riders to chat to after your session. you get that 6 times in one day for 20 minutes a time, in most rides you might get 5 minutes of those sort of conditions if your lucky!

Well worth it, I will be booking my next track day soon!

are you not worried that you crash and mangle your own bike? I would be to scared to go all out cos I have scrimped and saved and sold my kidney to afford my bike and I don't wanna see it get smashed!

You need to try fairly hard to kill an SV As long as you take sensible precautions anyway- meaning good crash bungs at the very least.

Last time I went on a track day, I managed to drop it by stupidly running onto a wet line while braking heavily for a chicane, and watched it slide off down the track at about 70mph before landing in the gravel. Changed the front brake lever and rode it home

Track days are great. I didn't make it to any last year, hope I can correct that this time round.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it - I did my first track day last summer and cannot agree enough with what you have said!

Glad you had a good time. Sounds like you might want to upgrade the suspension/tyres if you are going to do a few more! (I'll use any excuse for some upgrades!)
