Riding the Ferry from Newcastle to Ijmuiden - SV650.org

Hi All

Just a warning for you all who might be crossing the North Sea on this route. You can have a great night on board the ferry but be aware you might get breathalised the next morning in the Netherlands at Ijmuiden.

I'd had about 6 pints on the evening, bed for 11:30, jumped on my baby in the morning and then got breathalised at 10am as I rolled through passport control, luckily I was ok but I was bricking it. I've heard of people being over the limit the next morning so thats what was running through my mind whilst blowing into the machine. Another thing to consider the acceptable levels in the Netherlands are lower than the UK.

Anyhow, if any of you lot do this...get through the Netherlands and into another country as soon as you can 'cos its the land of the chicken strips. The only excitement is a roundabout and three corners in the North. I'm living here until November so am planning to go to Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg for a bit of fun.

Ben, If you fancy being shown a few rides out in Belgium at any stage let me know. The south is best for this.

The breathalyser is a regular occurence at the Dutch Ferry Ports. Europport and the Hook do the same.

The only good thing about it is you do not get a ban, they just park you up till you are sober. My mate lost his job because he missed his delivery time as the Polite man made him stay on the port for 9 hours
