Unplug your data drive to prevent accidental deletion if your arent confident.

With windows xp you can delete and repartition in the installation sequence. Just boot from the CD.

Well if you go though the XP installation booting the PC of the CD then it should give you the option to select C as your install disk. Also it will ask you if you want to keep the existing data on C or wipe it. As long as you don't select D as the install disk then all the data on there should be fine.
Note. though you have 2 disks you should still back your data up to another media, as hard disks are mechanic devices they are prone to sudden failure.

As mysteryjimbo said, make sure you disconnect the slave drive to prevent accidental deletion of anything!

Make sure its the slave you unplug.. as if you unplug the master, and you reboot with the XP CD in then the slave will apear a C not D and you could over write all your data. If you unplug it and you reboot as normal and don't get the error 'NO BOOT DISK' or something similar then you've pulled the right one.

It sound like an MTU prob but we looked at that last time and it made no diff.

Do a: ping www.microsoft.com and see if the name resolves to an IP address.
