Default VFR800

hi

thinking about chopping the SV in for a honda VFR800.. there must be a few owners on this site, the primary things i am going to be doing are commuting 50 miles per day and also looking to do a big euro-tour some point this year.. i hear these bikes are reliable and reasonable to run and insure.. heard a few bad things about the VTEC system though..

what would a good price be for the latest model that didn't have VTEC? i am keen to get an after market silencer for it too as the V4 sounds awesome when derestricted.. here's an example: http://www.impactsites2000.com/autoz.../staintune.wav

You want to check out this site. Huge vfr forum. It will have all the answers you need.

Rather good all-round bike, even for scratching. Though personally I don't like the styling much. If i was touring lots I could get over that.

There's a big feature in TWO this month which might be handy...

yeah, i'm about to cancel my Bike sub as this months was the usual ****e about how the GSXR is the best bike ever, etc, etc, etc.. gets as predictable as MCN

last month; litre superbike test
next month: supersports 600 showdown
month after: track weapons - the GSXR-600 versus the CBR-600RR

etc..
etc..
etc..

no variety

Gnan,

Have a read of this, from my site.

http://www.urbanbiker.co.uk/reviews/vfr_gs.htm

Myself and a good friend took a VFR for an intensive workout over a couple of hours...

Personally I think the VFR is a cracking bike, it can play hooligan when you want to blast through the lanes on a Sunday, be the most competent of commuters, and of course, it's a great touring tool.

Take one for a test, I like the Vtec, but to make it into a "bad boy" you need to ride it hard, but it gives a lot back in return.

Bit short wheelbase and not much room for hands, I suppose.
Wouldn't that make the handling a bit twitchy, and little suitable for touring?
Not to mention the lack of wind protection on the RH side...

Looking at it now, I am starting to think there have been some after market modifications made.
You make a good point though. I would be worried about its handling. Also, the extreme angles on those pipes may very well impede filtering in tight traffic.

On the plus side, I could probably afford that one...
