Default R6 throttle tube fitted to a K4 650S

Yamaha part number is 5SL-26240-01

Call your nearest Yam dealer and they'll order it in next day for £7.50 like mine.

No mucking about or (bizarrely) cutting the thing as mentioned in other posts/pages. It's a straight swap and all you need is a phillips screwdriver and 15 minutes max.

Doesn't seem have any major impact on low throttle openings (which is nice when you decide to test it out in the pouring rain on a cold Sunday in January) but once you start opening it up it's impressive and really gives a bigger kick. Started feeling a bit like I was on the GSXR600 I tried last summer, much quicker revving and much better acceleration at higher speeds in higher gears on the motorway. You have to use the gearbox a bit more as it redlines much faster than before and to top it all off the engine braking is increased as well.

Don't buy it if you have a clumsy right hand. For anyone else, it's the best mod you could possibly make for the money.

There has been a lot of discussion on this on the US forums as well. According to TWF on the socalsvriders forum the throttle tube with the number 5SL-26240-00 is exactly the same as the tube you bought. To put it different, you need the '03 R6 throttle tube.

Good to hear though I won't need a Dremel to make it fit.

Yeah, it'll fit with no work needed... I can't see that it would foul anything but I've been looking on this site this morning - http://people.tamu.edu/~redaggie03/S...0R6%20Tube.htm (couldn't access it as site was down over the weekend when I fitted it) and it seems that the extra bits could interfere with the stop - so the throttle won't have as much travel. I couldn't feel that anythig was missing and (on a private road) the thing gets from 70 to over 100 very quickly when I roll it on. I'll cut the extra bits off and see if there's any difference... if I get even more out of it by doing that then it'll be even better value... but just the straight swap has been worth it.

I'm assuming the removal of that bit of the throttle shown on the above site means you'll have the same top end as before, whilst if it's left on the top end will be restricted. At least 102mph tested is enough for me...

Does anyone know whether this will fit the K3 (S)?

Thanks,

Excuse me for being dense, but what is a throttle tube? The bit the right hand grip covers over? I presume it increases power by having a larger radius and therefore yanking more of the throttle cable for the same wrist movement?

correct, wrong and correct. It doesn't increase power it just opens the throttle more for a given rotation.

Correct.

Er, well, appart from it giving you more power... it just means the available power comes in faster
