Default R&G crash protector fitment to SK5

Hello, I was trying to fit some R&Gs to my bikini faired SK5 tonight and came up with what might be a little problem (it may not, but I would like to be sure). One of the lock nuts does not move very far down on the thread - - is that normal? The reason it bothers me is because when I mount the black brackets and tighten up the engine bolt it sticks out a couple around 1-3cm on the left hand side and not at all on the right hand side (sides when sitting on the bike). For peace of mind I would like them to stick out evenly on both sides but as both lock nuts are different one of them stops and wont go any futher, heck this one wont come back off now, but the other one will!

The bad boy himself

The other lock nut

Sorry if I have not explained my problem very well. If I don't get a reply I will be off down to HG tomorrow as thats where I bought them.

Sound like you have got problems, i'd take them back to HG and check the bolt sizes

From memeory that R&G nuts are self locking and can only be used once but i might be wrong

I'm pretty sure that the protectors should be solid on the frame and the bolt should be tightend to the correct torque.

I put the new R&Gs on hall13uk's bike and the thread should come out by about 3/4cm above the nut if i remember, its not much but it was off on one side than the other.. Its tad odd because you are doing both bolts up at the same time but one may grip better than the other making it thread more on one side than the other.

I recall mine not tightening symetrically either - I held the bolt in a vice and wound the tighter of the two nuts on and off a few times until they both then behaved the same.

TSM. The right hand side but is like this:

Was your friends bike like that TSM? As you can see at the rhs it sits a few mm inside the bolt, it doesn't even peep out!

I can't get it to move at all![/img]

take the bolt out and try to put the bolt on using molegrips to hold the bar, mabey the nut nyloc is very tight. Check to see for cross threads.

Did all the rest go on easy,
you might have a differant pitch bolt or nut.

offer up the offending bolt with another, and see if the bolt teeth align..

then try another nut that goes all the way down one of the other bolts on it.

don't use alot of force untill it reaches the nylock part of the nut, as you might strip either nut or bolt.

I think you might have a missmatch of nut or bolts...

All sorted now, with the bolt out and both nuts on the ends I tightened up one nut full way which resulted in the other tightening too and then I removed the other and replaced it in the engine. Ebike refunded me some dosh too
