SV650s - laid up since end November. Just tried to start her, she's turning over but nothing else. I had the same problem in October, she ended up on the back of an RAC flat bed but as soon as she got to the garage they started her straightaway - made me feel really stupid (they put a new set of plugs in her to make me feel better). Got a battery charger trickle feeding her but I don't think it's the battery??? Am I being female and missing something stupid???

I have just started my curvy that has been sat since june last year, tried to start it and it tried but just didn't wanna play. I took the plugs out gave them a clean and put fresh fuel in and it started. Definatly worth trying fresh fuel.

Thanks for that. Just opened a bottle of wine - a project for next weekend then.

Mine takes a lot of getting going after a layoff. (Bit like me, I suppose.)
My theory is that the fuel in the float bowls has dried out and they'll only refill when the engine is turning over due to the vacuum fuel tap. |

the fuel can seperate in the float bowl..even if ya dont start the bike, you need to "shake" it from side to side to keep the petrol mixed. This can lead to clogging the system

My injected K4 has not been started since last October. No new fuel and it fired up in about 1 second

I sort of feel that over the winter, the petrol can sort of jellify (?) if the bike is left idle and still for a long time.
Not throughout the tank, in the small constricted areas, ie about the carbs and things. Maybe you could chuck in one of those feul tablets into the tank (w/o filling her), whip out the battery and give it a good charge, and try again the next day. This is my theory. So, I ride all winter to be sure it doesnt happen to me :P Good luck mate. |

how long had it been off the road in October, not long I think due to the time of year?(or maybe wrong.) in that case it may well be something else other than old fuel .
