My thoughts on having had my first proper ride on my 99 SV are this
1. It feels a bit spoongey, plenty of rocking backwards and forwards on breaking and gear change. Is this the norm? Whats the usual fix? 2. It didn't feel too revvy, needed to really work the throttle to feel envolved with what was going on. Could it maybe restricted? How would know? 3. The gear lever is a bit too high up. Are they usually dropped a bit by you guys or left they way there are? 4.How many miles do you average when the fuel light comes on? Bearing in mind that the bike I've been riding for the last 2 years is this ![]() |

thats a 400 import gixer aint it? the sv is going to feel way different to that, way more spongey and the sv being a small twin not as smooth.

Unless it's had some work done on it a 99 SV will have very tired suspension. You could look at changing the fork oil and putting in some uprated springs, and think about a shock upgrade.A ZX10 or 636 shock seems to be a popular choice needing minimal alterations. Can be had off Ebay for £30-£50.

A v twin wont need the revs to go that you're used to with an IL4. If you're used to that style of riding the SV will feel "flat" in comparison.
Me, Im the other way round. Happy with the bike going on lower revs and hate having to rev the CBR to get it to do anything. You can adjust your gear lever. But Im buggered if I can describe it properly to you. You have to loosen that straight rod by the gear lever - that will lower it, then you just tighten the screws at the end is the best I can do. ![]() Fuel range - loads of threads on this subject ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah its a grey import all right, an '89 GSXR 400 RRSP to be precise. Dose anybody do a slipper clutch for the SV or is there one that will do the job? And what are the best tyres for normal road use?

I dont know about the slipper clutch, TBH once you've got used to engine charateristics you wont need one. As for tyres, I'm not taking the lid of that can of beans. I've had Bridgestone 020, 010 and Metzler Z6's on my SV I like the Metzlers the best out of the tyres I've tried. HTH HTH

i thought zx6/10 shocks are for a heavier weight rider, from what i read you's need to be quite chunky to benefit from it
