Default What year?

Is there a way to tell the year of my bike from the reg plate and frame number? Its a uk import and the guy hadn't registerd it yet, still waiting on documents from the DVLA. Its an X plate and the frame number starts with JS1AV.

X plate should be 1999

Looked in my Haynes manual, they all start JS1AV.

For SV650-X (1999) initial frame no. JS1AV133200100001 (for 2000, last 3 digits go from 771)
SV650S-X (1999) initial frame no. JS1AV111200100001 (for 2000, last 4 digits from 1206)

Ah just checked again and the above is for UK models only.

US models start JS1VP, but I haven't got any info if it's not UK or US.

Errr, I may be wrong on this, but I think you'll find that 2 reg's in one year started in '99 with "s" and "t".

Like I said, I could be wrong?!

Why didn't they just start the new reg in 00? would have been much easier.

PREFIX ie the first letter on the number plate
AUG- JULY
A 1983 B 1984 C 1985 D 1986 E 1987 F 1988 G 1989 H 1990
J 1991 K 1992 L 1993 M 1994 N 1995 P 1996 R 1997 S 1998

MARCH -AUG
T 1999 V 1999 W 2000 X 2000 Y 2001

NEW FORMAT ie with the numbers near the middle of the number plate
SEPT-FEBRUARY
51 2001
52 2002
53 2003
54 2004

So X has to be 2000 or early 2001
Cleaver eh!
