Default Looks like it's "terminal"

As some of you will know from this post, I had an off on my new K5 naked last week...

Well I've been to see it, and the prognosis is not good The repair bill is £3k + VAT, meaning they'll probably write it off. Contrary to my first thoughts the frame is OK, but both the upper fork legs are bent, all the nose cone/headlamp/clock assy is dead, new exhaust (£600 WTF!), new lock set, couple of clamps etc....

Here are the pics...

I thought I was prepared for this but I'm sitting here feeling really gutted. It's just started to sink in that I'm not getting it back

Just have to wait for the official outcome, but due to the price of the spares, I seriously doubt that I'll be riding it again.

Ouch. Really sorry to hear that it's curtains for the bike; I really liked it, one of my favourite K5s.

Well the official verdict is diesel, the guy that collected the bike said he could smell it on the front tyre, so now I understand why I went **** over tit, and why the engine revs went up...

The people at the body shop where the bike is say that generally most insurance companies have a deal with a salvage place that agree to pay a percentage of the bikes pre accident value, which is normally about 38%. That would be £1672.00, then I would have to "better" that offer, so say £1700...

Remember it would be recorded as a "write off" so it's value would be less, and I'd probably want to put a GSXR front on it. I don't think it would be economical for me to do that. But it may be worth breaking, as it's all so new.

The dealer has said they'd do me a good deal on a replacement machine, done the same. I still have the hugger and a few other bits to make it nice so I think, if I get the right money from the insurance company, that's what I'll do....

Oh ****.

They be sneaky little beggars these second bikes. Sorry, some of us should have warned you.

You get them for all the right reasons, commuting economy, winter, save wear and tear on your main pride and joy...

... they're just a sensible financial move...

... then the little blighters sneak into your good graces and you feel bad when the bad stuff happens. Even though 'Bad Stuff TM' is precisely why you bought them in the first place.

Just remember folks, motorbikes are not just machines - they are carriers of a virulent tarmac born virus = they MAKE you like them!
