Default Scotoiler and Crunch!!!

Well,

Im usually good (imho) when it comes to doing things on my bike, and fitting the scotoiler was something i was proud of, it was practically completley hidden,

However, as i didnt like the massive zip ties, i opted for the glue, and merrily prepared the swingarm for this, sure enough it worked... for a week, then it fell off...

never fearing, more glue was applied and it stayed on, for a week! just thinking that not enough glue had been applied, i applied MORE glue, and low and behold it stayed on

till i was doing 80mph up the a1 where it fell of and was munched by my chain!

great, so new dispsnser needed, i thought it was a twig, or another bit of road debry, but alas, i had not put enough glue on

ho hum. lesson learned...

ps.. 580 miles in a weekend... not bad

Eek not good matey, but wouldnt use glue to hold it on, thats not good and I know what you mean about using the cable ties, they do look pretty ugly.

Ive got another oiler, loobman and I used the bolts for the chainguard/hugger to hold a metal bracket that then held the dispenser bit. this then angles down and does its job on the sprocket/chain.

Ive also seen Viney do an excellent job with a scottoiler keeping it all hidden, so hopefully he'll pop along and tell you how he did this.

Viney modified the metal bracket that comes with the kit for the dispenser to alter the angle of it and reduce the size of the bracket. Hes then bolted it to the inside of the swingarm using a bolt in the hole for a paddock stand bobbin.

He did IMHO a brilliant job of hiding the install on e.d.s bike.

I've done the same on my SV saves messing about with zip ties.

I used some waterproof evo stick glue to stick on same of the cable guides to the inside of the swing arm and then zip tied the delivery pipe round the brackets that the hugger is attatched to.

My tube runs between the bolt holes on the chin gaurd, cable tied around the mounting points, then the chain gaurd is re fitted. My delivery tube comes over the front of the swing arm, but there is no reason why it couldnt go behind and attach to the bobbin hole.

Combination of modified metal bracket put on the swingarm bobbins and maximum strength areldite on the triangular "carrier" underneath the swingarm worked for me. Originally the garage just glued it on and mine fell off too.

have just dropped a mail to scotoiler to bring this to there attention, not that is is there issue, but my concern is that if it doesnt say in the instructions not to instlall with just the glue there is everypossibility it could happen again to someone else, and them not be so lucky,

We shall see if i get a reply..

Cheers
Alex

I used the wee plastic-things-with-holes-in that come with it, and superglued them firmly to the inside of the swingarm, only the tip's really visible. It's been perfectly solid and safe for over 5000 miles. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with using glue, you just have to do it right. Which means, thoroughly degrease teh arm before you stick it, use a sensible amount, and use the right parts, don't just glue the tube direct to the arm.

TBH I don't see a safety concern either, the chain will destroy the tubing without a thought. Those things'll amputate a foot without too much bother if you're unlucky enough.

Forget the super glue, it's too brittle, use the double sided sticky tape that is used for number plates, mine been stuck to the inside of the swing arm for well over a year.
