Default MOT certificates - can't have text over written?

I got told by the post office clerk that I need to change my MOT certificate, because the garage filled in "1006" for the year and scribbled over the "1" to make it "2006". He said that If I showed that to the police I could be in trouble! Does that sound about right?

Thanks in advance...

Ps. Don't get in arrears with your road tax. It's a pain to sort out!

That sounds ridiculous imho. Personally, I almost always have trouble with post office people, I mean, how realistic is it that your MOT certificate was originally issued n 1006?

They were like "You're in arrears with your road tax"

So I said "No **** sherlock"

"They're going to fine you."

"Tell me something I don't know"

"Not sure I should give you this tax disc"

"Give me the tax disc or I will set you on fire"

..No wonder you're having trouble getting Tax.
You've waited a thousand years to tax it.
Did you have a SORN for that time??

I don't think you'll get in trouble by as you never filled out the MOT, did you. If it was the LAST number ie, 2005 to 2006 then it'd be debatible.

Besides, it's all becoming computer generated now and you only get a piece of A4 to say it's done and info. is stored on a central PC.

About frickin' time. Can I set up a direct debit for my road tax as well? Would have saved me a lot of money.

When I went to tax the SV last time I'd SORNED it for a couple of months since I wasn't riding it. Rode it into town anyway to tax it at the big PO and they made atotal scene because I'd obviously ridden untaxed- I had all my gear on. It was quite funny...
"Did you ride while you were SORN?"
"Yup"
"You're not supposed to do that"
"Yup"
"Why?"
"Couldn't be bothered to take the bus, frankly"
"That's ILLEGAL!"
"Yup, so's my exhaust and my visor. Oh, and my number plate"
"But that's WRONG!" "
"I think you'll find that I'm paying for a tax disc, not for moral support"
"..."
"So, about that tax disc"

They ended up getting everyone out to check over my documents, obviously dying to find some fault they could refuse it for

You lot just make me laugh.

As for the MOT cert. No, it needs to be printed and not over written. however, the copper that stops you may be understanding as its 1006. Still need to get a duplicate, at the testers expense.

Its legal for you to ride to & from a MOT station without road tax or MOT as long as the bike is insured. I had to do that.
As for road tax, well as long as your bike is MOT ok & you have insurace then whats the fuss about riding it to the PO. Its legal for you to ride it from the MOT station back home so you could say that you were riding back from the MOT station & that you would only be getting a Tax disk if your bike had passed its MOT which is what the insurance company are looking for to say that your bike is roadworthy.

Silly nobs at the PO.
