Default Pleasant surprise...

I went to see the Flaming Lips the other night... Worth the ticket alone, but who's the support? Only the Go! Team! Fantastic... Like popping a cracker and finding the kohinoor diamond inside.

If anyone's wondering, they were both absolute, total genius.

I will have to give The Flaming Lips another try. I bought a recent album of theirs, since all these muso heads were saying it was really the least I could do, and just ended up listening to the Kings of Leon album I bought while I was down there.

Something about his voice vexes me. Reminds me of Mercury Rev, which for some reason I am not into either. Some gigs I go expecting a big support band. Think about it, say you are The Go! team, and they asked you, what are you going to say?

Gimme. That's what. Unless you are up your own bum of course.

I think last time I saw the Lips in teh same place it was some local support they hired for a pound... They sold the place out in days, so adding a big support was just pure generosity

With the albums, there's usually a couple of great songs, and a lot of noodles. But now they've got enough albums to just play good stuff live.

Can you recommend me a good Lips album then?

I like what the radio plays of them.

Go here:

There's fairly low-quality cuts of the whole new album (which IMO isn't great) but also the 4 best songs off Yoshimi, and some older stuff.
