Default wheel wobbles

Anyone know whats happened, was out on the bike a k3 pointy only has 13500 miles on the clock, on Sunday and was just coming into a 30 zone and got this loud grinding noise from the back wheel, followed by the back end wobbling, pulled in to inspect and the back wheel was covered in metal dust and shards, lucky enough was only half mile from home so I pushed it home and had a closer look an the wheel was completely loose but the wheel nut was tight, booked into the bike shop but they cant look at it till Thursday or Friday, just glad it happened when I going a lot slower and not earlier, any ideas???

Oh dear!!! That could have been nasty!!!! Sounds like a wheel bearing fault.Naughty. Does the axle still sit straight or has that broken? I mean, does the wheel wobble 'around' the axle? If yes,Bearing.

one of your rear wheel bearings has probably failed. They don't usually fail in such dramatic style though. Usually you would get some warning, i.e. noisy/rough, before a major collapse.

The axle bolt is ok, the thing worrying me is that the wheel bearings were replaced when I got the wheels powder coated 2 months ago, and I havent used the bike that much, the wheels had new tyres fitted and I got the shop to fit new bearings and put it all back together again

Sounds like bearings to me too. At the same time as checking the bearings and axle. Also check the torque arm and the callipers and pads, spocket and chain for damage.

Close shave I would say. Had that have happened at speed, I would hate to think of what could have been.

Good possibilty of the sprocket carrier bearing having failed, the metal shavings you might see when this happens is bits of the swingarm gouged out by the sprocket studs.
