Default sv tickover problem?

went out on the bike today and at a set of traffic lights the bike died, i fire'd it back up no probs but it wouldnt idle just kept cutting out? i wheel'd the bike into a side road and kept trying after about 8 attempts at starting i held the revs at about 4k for a while and it was fine after that all previous attempts the bike wouldn't let me hold the throttle at 4k it died no mater what i did. any ideas?

Mine acts this way when it very cold, but like you i have no idea why.

That wasnt very helpful was it really? Sorry.

What does it idle at when its running ok? Maybe adjusting the idle speed will help?

I would hazard a guess at lumpy fuel. You holding at the throttle open more than likely forced the "lump" through the system. Could possibly have been a small bit of crap dragged through from the tank.

Indeed, we used to get a bit of this with the 'crossers at school 'til I fitted inline fuel filters... Haven't had a problem since Worth a look
