A little advice please...
I'm searching for my first SV as we speak and have set up two test rides over the weekend. I was hoping I could get some feed back about one of them which I think is just a little too much considering the high milage: sv650s 25000miles MOT&Tax August Full ervice History Additions: Belly Pan Akcroprovic sports exaughst Double Bubble Screen Paddock Stand Single Seat Conversion Any thoughts gratefully received. Cheers, Noisie |

I think he's trying to avoid losing all the money spent on buying the akky 'zorst. I'd offer less.

The money's maybe a bit tall, but if it's good and if they're the sort of bits you may have bought anyway, then it could be OK value for you. But a '99 would have to be good for £2000.
The 25,000 is no probs for an SV, but obviously if it's never had the oil changed in all that time it'd be a bad buy, I wouldn't necessarily fuss over service tickets, but if there's no documents and the owner doesn't even know where the sump plug is, then it's unlikely to have been cosseted. Ask direct service questions, and look straight in the owners eye when he/she answers, you'll know if it's true or not.

Also it depends on what kind of use you want out of the bike. If you plan on going to Europe or commute every single day some distance then a 25k miler might not be the best long term plan. One of my biggest mistakes was buying a high mileage cheap bike as I thought I would save money.Turned out to be a false economy as within 3 months of owing it the brakes needed replacing as did many other expensive compenents. Doh! Just make sure everything is in order, service intervals, condition and all the paperwork. If you have any doubts at all, don't buy it. Personally I would try to get a lower mileeage one. Also ask aorund to see if there are any big jobs that need to be done at 25k miles. A lot of people sell their bikes as there is something coming up on the scheduled service interval that will cost a bit. Just have a look at how many just under 16k mile VFR800's there are for sale!!
Best of luck. |

If you want to look at it a different way, if the Akra's in good shape you can probably get £250-£300 for it on Ebay with a good description. So if you don't want it, that's the bike for £1750, assuming you get the standard one. Still not cheap I think.
What's teh single seat conversion? A clipon seat cowl, or a whole new tail? Find out if it's been jetted for the system too, that's not neccesarily a dealbreaker but it tells you a bit about the owner.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than £1800 for it! Have a good look around there's lots of SVs for sale with lower mileage for less than £2000!!!

Thanks!!
I'll have a chat with him. I want the bike for trips out over the summer to get me out of the London stink (still just a simple country boy at heart) and down to Devon/Wales/Cornwall. The high mileage might be a stinger later when I re sell. All I need now is a way of carrying a surf board on it... any suggestions? I won't hold my breath ![]() Cheers, Noisie |
