Default running wide in corners with upgraded springs

hi sv650.org,

I've just bought an '00 650s & I like it a lot

only problem I'm having is that it seems to run wide in corners & need *loads* of steering input to make it round

the guy I bought it off had fitted +10% fork springs to it, so I was wondering whether this might screw up the handling. I am ~14 stone so I've bumped up the rear preload to pretty much max, & the rear shock seems to be okay, seems to be enough damping there

I was thinking maybe bump up the rear ride height or drop the 3-crown thru the forks a little .. any comments?

Raise your fork tubes in the triple-tree's. Do it one-to-two millimeters at a time, till you get the desired geometry you R looking for. Raising the rear ride height is also do-able. Find out what the correct swingarm angle is and then adjust the rear height to that measurment.
Yes, fork springs will keep the front end from collapsing, thus 'lifting it. Put your rear preload back to its correct sag, check your front sag, correct swingarm angle, then make adjustments via triple-tree.

I have raised the fork tubes ~3mm in the triple-crown & this has transformed the steering, much quicker & more positive

How long have you been riding ? and also what tyres does your bike have on it at the moment ?

Oh and have you checked your tyre pressures lately ?

Good call!
We pulled our SV racebike out after a long winter storage and the bike was way slow steering. We went over all our measurements, all correct. ?!
Then one of my race partners says "how about we check the tires?" DOH!

Again, good call, as it is the FIRST thing on the checklist
