Default Why oh why!!

Just come back from a short run and the bike was 'missing' a bit on tick-over so I thought I'd whip the carbs off and clean the pilot jets but guess what happened....... yep, got all the screws out apart from one that snapped!!

Why do they use monkey-metal. Haven't we all had enough of this??

That sux!! Isn’t it always the way though, at least one bolt always gives you trouble, normally the last?!!?!?

Probably one of my best investments ever was an ‘impact driver’ one of these beauties has saved me from rounded/sheered bolts on many an occasion, I am sure of it!!!

They're not usually of the shear-off variety of S*** Bolts, usually they're of the disintegrating head, won't move for anything short of the wrath of god type. Which scrwe is it that broke? A float bowl cover?

Yep the float bowl screw. The head did go first but I used my trusty dremmel to cut a new head.

Gonna use some copper grease on assembly.

Also, fit some decent screws... Is it M5x12mm? 8 for the fitting of. Allen heads instead of the ridiculous phillips heads, that's half the problem- phillips head in soft metal, on an application that'll rarely be touched...

Havent really worked on any other bikes, is this just a suzuki thing or do all manufacuters have bolts made of cheese?

My mitsubishi colt suffered from a similar problem, a hour under the car drilling tiny holes in the stub is not my idea of fun.

Dunno, the only other make I've worked on were all cheapo Yams, which are all absolutely stinking... Worse than the SV, by a fair bit.

http://www.huskey.com/s_autoseize.html

Halfway down is aluminum antiseize compound.

Some say copper antizeize, being higher on the "make the other material rust" chart than aluminum, is bad idea on aluminum assemblies. I think itss kind of true, but never saw an actual problem with it.

Cheap way to go safe is get graphite antizeize, or just regular grease.

Pretty much, yes.
