Default Sv neutral selecting

I am having real trouble selecting netural from first either selector will not go up at all and if and when it does goes straight through to second. Will select fine from second down to netural. Any indeas??? its only done 4500 miles and last service was about 1000 miles ago but that was a year ago.

I know I must ride it more.

you could check the oil level of the existing oil make sure theres not too much in, next try an oil change if its been a year since the last.

Simple things first----Check chain is lubed and adjusted correctly.Lube gear pedal pivot and linkage.Check oil level and think about changing it.I find old oil leads to poor gear selection.
