Default Cleaning K & N air filters....

Anyone done it?

What did you use to clean it with, as I took mine out last night and it is filthy.. I might have to put the snorkle back in!

Although I put the stock filter back in this morning, and it is running really well.. Possibly better.

To me it seems that it doesn't make that much difference... are the BMC/Pipercross ones any better, or even give you a noticable difference?

There is debate as to wheter the K&N is more restrictive than a stock Suzuki filter. Search for more threads on this.

I have a pipercross, there is a definite improvement over stock and more noticeable induction noise.

If you have a stock filter why not do a snorkelectomy to it? Again, search the site (or SVrider.com) for a write-up on this easy mod.

EDIT: As for cleaning the K&N, there are cleaning/re-oiling solutions available from the usual on-line stores. M&P, Demon Tweeks etc.

K&N make their own kit... Is any better or worse than anyone else's? Who knows. Halfords sell a Pipercross kit, not expensive IIRC, but will it work? No idea

K&Ns for the carbed SV aren't especially free filters, from what I felt and saw. Just free enough to sometimes cause you to be lean enough to want a rejet, but not free enough to get a lot of benefit from. I think if you want to tune for power, they're a waste as there's better for that, and if you don't then stick with stock, but that's just my opinion, others would definately disagree.

The filter does work very well as an actual filter, it seems... Bit better than the BMC I use, by all accounts (even BMC and Factory Pro, who claim to have designed the thing, say that their filter isn't recommended for very dusty environments) But in the UK, that's really not an issue I think.
