For the road you don't need more, unless you're some sort of label queen.

True. Though to be honest, on the road you don't need more than stock.

You can't get a stock shock rebuilt either. AFAIK the hagon can be re-built. I had one on my ninja but it was on when I got it and still sold it for £150 when I broke the bike... Literally.

Yup, but then again, you can buy a slightly used stock one from Ebay or a breakers for £15

How you going to know it's REALLY a minter?
I bought a 2nd hand one of ebay and it was worse than the one I had, so I went with a SRAD shock I bought from a reputable breaker.

I was thinking of doing a few track days, I've sorted the front with progressive springs oil and wanted something reasonably priced to sort the back out that's better than stock!!!!!

Observation... The preload ring corrodes on SV shocks, gives a good indication of use.

Or alternatively, you could buy approximately 15 used SV shocks for the same price as a Hagon Even if 2/3 are rotten, that still gets you 5 good 'uns.

Anyway. I have no idea why I'm even following this line of argument, since the OEM shock comment was only meant to make a point about "need" I certainly don't need my Ohlins, but that's not to say it doesn't improve my riding pleasure- I didn't need to get it resprung either, but I did and now the bike handles quite ridiculously well.

But "need" is really not the point. Hagon's shocks are good, durable, pretty effective, but most of all cheap at the price...

Personally if going for a basic shock I'll be more inclined to go for

1)Technoflex
2)Hyperpro
3) Maybe a Matris

All Emulsion shocks with rebound adjusters. With the Technoflex(emulsion) I know you can get it built with at what ever starting length you want(stock? or say maybe 5mm) and in addition include a ride height adjuster(for an extra £10). This gives you a wider set up range.

The ones I've listed are not much more than a Hagon and in my opinion better quality bits.

Hagon IMO is no more than just a direct replacement for the OE shock or as someone say 'An MOT shock'.

Cheers
Ben

Havign ridden on one, I totally disagree... Though it wasn't close to the Ohlins either.
