Default A4074 - is it really as bad as it's reported to be?

Anyone know this road, and why it appears to be so dangerous?

Ride that road quite a lot.

Its got no verge, trees and high hedges line the edge of the road, with lots of side roads and corners. Cars emerge and turn off with little warning. There is often heavy traffic, with eveyone tailgating but stilldoing 50+mph.

Hoever:

It's a 50mph speed limit (2 cameras), with double white lines and none of the bends are any sharper than they look.

Cause of accidents = bloody poor driving standards. Simple as. If people were paying attention there is no reason for this to be a dangerous stretch of road.

Maybe they should change the sign?

"DRIVE LIKE A ****?
DIE!"

Seems the main problem...

Used to ride that road to work for a few weeks and absoloutely loved it!!

Was riding a GSXR750 at the time and managed to get 140mph in places on a good day!! (only joking...)

I didn't run into any trouble at all while I was there, but did see a few carcasses on the road sides from time to time.

I would recomend that you check it out for yourself with a couple mates!!

Watch out for the double white lines, especially when overtaking!! Oh, and there a bit that really smells - stay focussed!!

Learn for where the side roads are before you go crazy.

P.s. - There is another set of bends near swallowfield that make this route look tame!! Can't remember where exactly, lets just say I was enjoying the scenary (i.e. I was Lost!!)

I'm not familiar with the road, but "Ellie King lost control of her car on the A4074" and "In fine weather at about 5.50pm, Ryan ran his motorbike into the back of a Vauxhall Astra that had stopped, indicating a right turn, on a left bend near the top of an incline. " make it sound like it is indeed people's inability to control their vehicles that seems to be the problem.

Sad, but most likely very true.

I think that's the road that goes past Fox's Diner, albeit the section referred to is a few miles further south.

Fast road, but I'm a bit puzzled as to why it's worse than many other similar roads.

That section is less open than the bits further north. Ive done it on a wet dark Sunday evening, which was interesting. I also reckon it's more to do with poor driving standards.

I normally go out to Foxes via Henley and come back via the B4009 into Goring. Much better bit of road IMO.

I rode that road a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think it particulary dangerous. Mind you this was earlish on a Sat morning and not during heavy traffic.

I would say that it is a road that invites fast speeds. I guess with traffic this could cause it to become more dangerous.

And I wonder how many speed camera's are on that stretch of road?

**** all probably. Yet more proof that the government couldn't give a rat's saggy **** about how many deaths. Yet they have no problem sticking a speed camera where it's not needed but generates cash. ******s.

Ah feel better for that.
