Default Oracle DBA workshop 1course

Hi i have been offerd the chance to do the Oracle DBA workshop 1course through my university for what i have been told is a very good price.

Has anyone done this before and was it any good?

If so do you feel that it benifited your career?

Thankyou

How much are they asking?

Do you have any Oracle experience?

Do you have any database experience?

Have you seen a course outline and what does it cover?

Oracle is one of the dominant database management systems in the corporate environment so it's well worth gaining some skills, but I'm skeptical about whether a 1 day course can teach you enough to be really usefull and worthwhile...

I did Oracle DBA course at Oracle for V6, V7 upgrade. But now leave it to the full time DBAs

Before attending any DBA course, get to know SQL+, this in itself is a coule of days course. Getting certified is a long route and expensive if you have to do it yourself. However, once certified you will find there is a huge market out there for your skills.

Oracle is light years ahead of other RDBMS solutions in the delivery of solid, reliable database technologies, things like SQL server are still a toe in the water. The products that Oracle deliver are never what you would call "Leading Edge" but what they are are the tools that industry demands with the support that critical applications require.

Sorry should have given some more detail, its a week long course and is between £200-300.

I have a reasonable knowledege of sql and pl/sql i have never done it professionally but have been using it as a student for 3 years plus done my major project using it with PHP.

As for oracle experiecne i have used 8i through a unix interface and 10g through the isql interface.

Having looked at the course info its looks quite comprenhenive, its good to hear that these sort of qualification are reconised so i think i will do it.

Cheers guys
