Default Brake light - MOT "advisory"

Just had my first MOT.

Passed. - but with an advisory regarding the rear break light switch.

The light does not come on unless the pedal is pressed "firmly", meaning that it is not possible to show the brake light without actually operating the brake.

Having peered at the various springs, wires and tubes I have one question.

How do I adjust it ????

I can do it by increasing the play in the pedal, but that leaves the brake sloppy and with too much travel

I could disconnect the spring between the switch and the pedal and reposition the bend in the spring, but I am likely to break it!

Any suggestions??

Sid - followed your post about getting the straightening the forks.
Got me through the MOT - many thanks.

There is a plastic nut nut attached to the brake light switch(sits on the metal switch holder).

Screw that anti clock wise whilst holding the switch body to stop it spinning .

Test to make sure it works ok and that's it. While you at it you may want to spray some WD40 or similar as most rear brake switches are prone to getting stuck anyways.

Cheers
Ben

Then apply plasters to all the grazes you've just aquired. Don't worry, they won't infect, all that road grime and oil is too toxic for any infections to survive.

Maybe you could borrow some of Jonboy's clear nail polish, he may have some in his topbox.

Hmm... that reminds me. I've got the banjo switch installed but just not connected to the bike wires. So it's just sat there for the last two weeks doing sweet feck all

Cheers

Thanks guys.

That's my early morning job for tomorrow.

Then I can go and enjoy the SUNSHINE.

(Provided I don't break a nail of course, cause then I'll just have to go for a manicure STRAIGHT away.)

I have got a nice pair of yellow Marigolds that should keep all that nasty oil of me.

Richie - thanks for the piccy, a godsend for the mechanically inept.
