Default The southerners plan of attack..

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I know I have threatened this before, but this time it's real. I want to spend a weekend riding in the Peak District and I'll probably have one or two other Southern Softies with me.

So, I thought it would be nice if we could arrange this at a time when you guys may be doing a "Cat & Fiddle" run, or something similar. I think I'd like to meet a few of you in person, rather than at the end of a keyboard.

If I go straight from work on the Friday night, I reckon I can do West London to Matlock, with 1 break/petrol stop by 21:30. That gives us all of Saturday and Sunday morning before we have to start our way back.

So, any dates you guys could come up with would be great (I know it's 6 months away, but I like to plan these things with Mrs Jelster, so she knows that I'm up to something). I have a something planned for the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May, and as long as it's not on a major bike race date we should be fine.

Any tips on where to stay would be helpful, like a decent B&B for 2-6 people for 2 nights....

You may all decide that you would prefer not to mix with any London "oiks", in which case I can understand. Would be absolutely terrific if Pedro, the exiled Northerner could make it back to the UK for the same weekend, and had a bike (but I have heard that his riding's a bit on the poor side so he'll probably come up with some lame excuse ).

So, any input you guys provide would be most helpful.

.

Steve you cheeky rascal...I will keep my eye on this to see how it develops. A little blat in the Peak district does sound rather appealing.

Jelster, seems everyone up here is ignoring you.
Something you said?

I can't really help with the B & B , living in Stockport, I've never had to stay overnight around Matlock.
However, I would be interested to meetup and put faces to names.

Have a good New Year

It would be great to see you guys up here, I'm sure I would be dropping down to ride out with you. It would be nice to show you some of the roads a bit further North as well (make it worth your trip ) maybe round Devils bridge?

Sir Jelster,

I don't know Derbyshire but it's sort of The Midlands really..........and Pbx and the rest are right when they suggest a little higher up.

I wonder if you might consider (say) Skipton as a base, because it would be equidistant from The Lakes, The Peaks, Trough of Bowland, The Dales and the North Yorks Moors. And you've just GOTTA do Hartside!

If you fancy it, give me numbers and I'll fix accomodation. And, with a little help from some good chums, even line up some stimulating routes.

(And introduce you to proper food and beer)

El Bocc is right. Skipton is a good base for a weekends jaunt. Honda Bros lot did this and had a good turnout. 1 from London & 2 from Scotland. Some good eating and drinking places in Skipton and the best roads. Road out of Matlock to the Cat and Fiddle is heavily Policed at the weekends in the summer including a helicopter
