Default IT: plain text formatting codes

Okay I've Googled for ages but can't find what I want, so I'm passing it over to the forum's IT guys and gals.

I need the plain text formatting code for Underline that can be used in Word. Now I know bold is *bold* and italic is _italic_ but can I find Underline? No .

So if someone knows, please share .

No it isn't but thanks for the idea. I've found out the state of play and Word only supports bold and italics in this fashion from the Autocorrect/autoformat menu, whereas Open Office 2.0 will display _underline_ as underline, which is exactly what I wanted, so problem solved.

After some heavy googling I was about to say that I dont think it can be done in Word - but you beat me to it!

Glad you found your answer though!

I thought that in Microsoft Word the Underline was simply 'Ctrl U'

It works on mine

Yes it does, but that's a keyboard shortcut, and didn't fit the purpose for the particular requirement I had .

You can save files as plain text so they can be opened by other applications [eg wordpad]. The problem if you do this is that features specific to Word wont be correctly interpreted by the other application so the bold/underline/italic text you use word for wont show as that in the other application.

To get it do show bold/italic/underline etc you have to use the codes which the new application would use. In this case with jonboy saving as plain text, using those codes will tell the application hes using to bold/italic/underline the text.

HTH.

Edit: sorry did a delete and rewrite For the benefit of those wondering if Babyj is psychic and thanking me in advance
