Like the title says, I am converting my throttle tube assembly for an R6 unit. It has a shorter distance to WOT, comes with a grip that almost matches the SV unit, and it cost me a whopping $11.35 taxes incl. I'll post some impressions once I put it on, but from what others have said, it saves you having to constantly readjust your throttle hand position. It will fit both curvys and not-so-curvys (although some slight trimming is required for the later ones). For us curvy types it is a direct replacement.

I know of a few racers who have tried replacement throttle tubes.
More than a few of them have ended up with impressive quick action throttles that turn out to only open 7/8 of the way! Be careful as it's no use having 72 hp if you can only open the throttle enough to get 68 hp! |

PM ronlarimer or check his website. He has done this and there is a walkthrough on how to do it as well.

I've done this.
I used the instructions off Ron Larimers site. http://www.ronlarimer.com/sv650/index.html |

Finally did mine today. Checked I do get full throttle and it makes things very interesting indeed. Bike feels much quicker coz I'm getting on the power much easier. Before I would have had to change my grip to get it fully open, now it really is just a twist of the wrist. All it cost me was £7.42.

Yup, I did mine a while back and found the same- works perfectly. It's got me using full throttle more frequently

I'm picking up my R6 throttle today from a very perplexed Yamaha dealer.
I'm sure my Haynes manual will cover removing and re-fitting the standard throttle tube, but has anyone done a wlk-through guide, or able to give me a few tips or things to watch out for? I've checked Ron Larimer's site but the shortcut no longer works and I can't find where to navigate to the install. Also tried PMing Ron but I guess he's not logged on for a couple of days. Can anyone help out? Cheers, Steve. |
