Bike stalling in the Rain - SV650.org

Just got back from a 3200 mile trip in and around Colorado and New Mexico where we encountered some rain along the way. After about 15 minutes of riding in the wet my bike stalled and would only run on one cylinder.

After the rain stopped and the engine gradually returned to running on two cylinders and works perfectly. I initially thought the problem might be related to bad fuel as we stopped at some fairly small towns along the way but the problem always occurred after riding through the wet.

Contacted the dealer I bought the bike from and they indicated that this was a common problem on the SV's but would not fix the bike despite the fact it is still under warranty. A call to Suzuki US was not much help either as they were in complete denial about this situation.

How common is this problem and are there any known fixes for it. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

2 fixes... Fender extender, or silicon grease (nonconductive, high temp stuff) around the plug boot. Both close to 100% fixes. I like the grease, myself.

Its pretty common.

Theres a few things you can do.

Not ride in the rain

Fit a fenda extenda which lengthens the front mudguard so that spray and much isnt thrown on the front cylinder.

If you dont like the look of the fenda extenda, theres another trick you can do with non conductive silicone sealant that Northwind recommends.

If you do a search this has been covered loads of times.

Seems kind of strange that Suzuki is in complete denial about this obvious design flaw.

Fender extender deffo.... OEM front fender way too short at rear.
