how hard is it swap an engine for a different one once its ''gone'' lol



also will a sv 1000 or a sv650s injection engine fit the old curvy bikes?

If you know what you're doing, a direct like for like swap can be done by one man in about an hour or so, give yourself another hour for all the other stuff (carbs/ exhaust & electricals).

Not having really looked at it, if you wanted the FI from the later model, you'd have to scrap the loom, instruments and get the later ecu, you could probably fit a later engine and adapt it to run on carbs though, forget the sv1000 lump it won't fit without major frame mods and fabricated support and even if you did manage that youd still need to get it insured or even SVA'd (can't remember but there is something about major frame changes)

Either way it's going to take awhile and you're sure to come across several problem, so don't expect it to be as easy as a like for like swap.

You definately wouldn't want to fit the FI, for one thing it won't fit under the tank For another, it's not especially good on the SV. You could fithte engine and keep the carbs- you need new intake rubbers as the FI and carbs mount differently, you also need to do some electrickery under the generator side, I forget the details. And, your stock exhaust won't fit because of the oil cooler, neither will most aftermarket ones. All in all, a lot of hassle for not very much benefit.

See when Rictus says you can do it in an hour? You can't Neither can I. He's abnormal and forgets this... I mean no offence here, but from memory you're not a massively experienced mechanic? It's not a small job. It's not an incredibly massive job either, but approach it with respect. You won't appreciate how awkward it can be till you spend some time manhandling an engine.

Here here! My Father and I struggled for 3hrs without any luck to remove the engine from my K4, Rictus turns up and drops it within 10mins.

Its fiddley, but if you have half a clue about which end of a spanner is which then you (or two of you for best effect) can fit it in a day/weekend, following the book.

Mindyou, a stright swap shouldnt take that long, we rebuilt the top end of mine, so maybe 1/2 - 1 day for a direct swap?
