Hi
Just a quick newbie hello ![]() I've been looking at getting myself on a bike for a while now and decided to bite the bullet and get it sorted now I have a place to keep one! So a few Q's about the Direct Access Scheme (for those who have done it) 1) Does the training have to be done in say 4 consecutive days (ie monday-thursday in one week) or can it be done say 1 days training a week?... (or am i thicko and thats what 'intensive training' stands for!??) 2) Does £100 a day (for the DAS) including bike hire sound reasonable (im based up north) 3) I was planning to get my Theory test done and CBT first, is this wise or shall i do it all on the DAS scheme? Oh, and the reason im posting in here is that I would like a SV650s for my first bike. Sat on one (faired) last year and it felt good, not too heavy or to big for me (only 5'7), cheap enough to buy (and repair if i drop it.. which i prob will), cheap enough to insure and not as crazy as a GSXR600 which i'd prob kill myself on! Thanks Rich |

1) No, can be done anytime like normal lessons.
2) It's not awful, but I suggest that you could find it cheaper in your area of the country. 3) Definitely do the theory first, but talk to the school about whether you can get a discount on the CBT by doing them together. Otherwise do it first. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your training when it comes up. I did an intensive course a few years ago and it was probably the most exhausting week of my life. It didn't help that was early January, though. Still loved it. |

What Carsick said. However..
You might find it better to do all your tuition in one lump rather than in 1 day per week sessions that way you wont have to spend time getting back up to speed at the start of each session. You'll be surprised how much you forget in a week. However I did find it tiring doing mine that way. So pick what works best for you.

Hi rich r,
I did my DAS last August with West Pennine Training, in Blackburn, can't recommend them highly enough! They're advertised every week in MCN. I paid £550 for 5 days, with CBT on the first day and full test on the fifth day. If you want to do the intensive course you have to have already done the theory test before you start your five days. The money included five nights in the B&B down the road from the training school, and it was good fun as I went with a mate. It was cheaper for me to go and do this and stay over than it was to do it in Birmingham. As carsick said, it was really, really tiring! I was actually properly ill after it all finished, I literally finished my test (passed with one minor which indicates quality of training ![]() I thought the intensive day after day was a good way to do it, as I said the instuctors were really good and taught us how to ride safely and properly, as opposed to 'just preparing us for the test'. Blackburn may not be the most inspiring place to ride around for five days but it has a decent mix of roads and conditions and I really enjoyed it. Best thing is I now get to ride my SV! Good luck with it all, Cheers |

I did my test (not DAS) end of last month tho it was me and someone doing their DAS so I did everything they did just on a smaller bike.
I did Theory on the monday, CBT on the saturday, then full days on the Saturday, SUnday, Monday with test at the end of the day Monday. I didnt feel pushed or pressured or tired after any of it. It was 3 days of really good fun and i couldnt wait to pass and jump on my own bike. Leon |

Defo do your theory and get that out of the way. #
If you link it to the DAS and fail you're probably down a ton as you'll need to reschedule the final test which means an extra day I did the CBT and then a month or so later the 4 day DAS with the test on the last day. Be prepared to be knackered its tiring. Also when the instructer insists you do U turns for 2 hours in the boilly sun remember, "its for your own good" ![]() |
