Today I had some Michelin Pilot Powers fitted at a tyre place fairly local to me that i have used since i started riding. I have always had good service there.
However today on my back from the garage I pulled the brakes on at around 60mph with the idea of slowing to 20ish and filtering past a line of stationary traffic starting with a lorry. Bike began to slow and then to my horror the brake lever came back to the bar with a very loud clonking noise from the front of the bike, i had to steer hard around the lorry and eventurlly came to a stop in the middle of the traffic!!!! When i checked the brakes i found that the lower left hand mounting bolt was missing and the top one was not even finger tight ![]() ![]() I called the shop to inform them what had happen and they apologised, however i feel like maybe i should complain formally. What do you think?? PS on a lighter note the pilot powers are ace ![]() |

Nasty, glad to hear nothing serious came of it in the end.
Was there any damage caused to the bike, e.g. the wheel paint chipped where the calliper hit it??? If so, then I’d make a formal complaint and get them to replace damaged parts. We all make mistakes, especially on a Friday afternoon .. but lets face it, when dealing with something of this potential danger, no visits from the f-up fairy are acceptable. If it were me and nothing was damaged, I’d chalk it up to experience and check my bolts myself before I rode away next time. Or perhaps vote with your feet and go elsewhere??? But who’s to say they aren’t worse??? |

I certainly wouldnt go back to a garage that did that to me and it wouldnt matter how much they appologised.
I would formally complain and take your bike elsewhere in future. |

If not damage then I'd see what I can get free. If damage then obviously it should get fixed.
Probably no call for anything more serious, but they should definitely be aware of how close it was. |

Part of me blames myself for not checking the brakes etc before riding off, after all i'm always ultra careful when i've been working on the bike so why not when someone else has. Think i'll pop down tomorrow and have quiet word with the boss man about the wheel. I don't want to cause trouble but theres mistakes and theres ![]() ![]() |

Glad you got away with it.
I'v had that happen to me. Having a mega time with my 250 motad. Wheelies and stoppies(private land). After playing time going along and I felt something hit my leg. Took no notice still approaching a set of light which then turned to red. I hit the brakes, bikes slowed for a nano second then nothing. I had to run it. Yep only one bolt left holding the caliper. Didn't even want to think about if it had happended whilst doing a stoppie ![]() It then hit me that it must have been the other bolt that hit my leg on it's way out. Went back to look for it and found it :P . The shop was owned by a mate and he did understand that I was unhappy and dissapointed. Comes down to relationship and usual level of service. Personally I would only put in a formal complaint if a place was being arsy about a situation. ...so what state were your boxers after the incident ![]() Cheers Ben Blue_SV650S Lol @ f-up fairy |
