Default little extra power for 650 sv

i have just been reading two wheels only magazine and they have got a used bike review on the sv650/s. one of the paragraphs mentions that Suzuki decided to retard the ignition in second and third gears in order to get through the drive by noise tests and that this shaves off a little power, it then goes on to say that some owners have sorted this by snipping some wires at the ignition controller under the tank ( they tell you which colour ones to cut, apparently its two wires that go to the switch in the gearbox ). I was wondering if anyone out there has done this mod and if so was there a noticeable difference in power in second and third gears sorry if this subject has been covered before but its the first Ive heard of it :

Covered many times.

Do a search.

This might come up in the search, so: most people say the box makes no difference, but Rictus01 reckons it does. I'm on the fence- I felt no difference when I did it anyway, but Rictus isn't daft. Quite happily say that if there's a difference, it's not enough to justify the price though.
