For divorce reasons if my dad has an asset my mum gets half at the moment so i have brought him the bike (aand he paid cash to me) and i am the registered owner , wheneva i go onto online insrance they wont do it as my dad would not be the registered owner,
has anyone else had this where they own it and they need someone else to be insured on it? |

I think that the only way you'll be able to do this. Is for you to insure the bike and then add your dad to the policy as a 2nd named rider.
Unless you can pull a fast one and sell the bike back to your dad for £1 and then he can register the bike in his name. I dont know how the divorce would work with this though. Whether they would just accept that he had paid £1 for it or they would make him sell the bike at market value and then split it 50 / 50.

i would just insure myself on it, but i am only 18 , ie insurance megahigh and my own no clainms discount is alreadsy being used on my own sv obiously, i do plan to sell it back to him for £1 when he's free of my mum but till then i cant, maybe if i ring my own insurance comapny up i can get the same deal on his , ie they include my 2 years no claims

Ring them.
I have a car on a pcp where the company are registered keepers as I am technically leasing it. I couldn't get the insurance online but when I rang they insured me for the same price as the quote I got on the web if it was in my name. Some companies can get funny though. They explained that in the event of a claim (if it was say written off) and they pay out the full value of the bike, there can be disputes between the registered keeper and legal owner as to who the money should go to. |

I got insurance on my car in my wife's name online.
There's usualy a spouse option on line. I would think if you called them you wouldn't have a problem as it's family |

speakto your dads lawyer. it will probably HAVE to be in his name. Maybe if he receives it as a gift or pays £1 as said? the lawyer is the best bet, sorry, but it wont be easy. Paul |

Just a thought, but you could try posting the question on one of The Motley Fool discussion boards: www.fool.co.uk
You can get a lot of financial advice, often covering how to avoid tax and penalty payments. There are some really smart folks on there who know all the loopholes, although, it's best to confirm with a solicitor (but if you want a starter for ten, try it). I use the boards a fair bit for tax/VAT questions, and get some really useful advice. HTH Jo |
