Default Took a pillion for the 1st time...

OK so last night I took the plunge and took my girlfriend pillion for the 1st time. It seemed wierd at 1st especially when she decided to move around just as the bike was coming to a stop! Anyway when we got back she said she loved it and wants to go out again tonight!

I borrowed my bro's spare helmet but youve guessed it... she wants her own helmet in PINK! Anyone know whos does pink helmets?

I also noticed that the gearbox seemed more clunky on changes than normal, the oil has been changed about 1500 miles ago, any ideas???

Sorry if this post is a bit pointless I'm just well chuffed that we didnt have any major incidents!

No, a good post as its something I think that preys on peoples minds before they try it and its really not too bad is it? Certainly worried me as Im tip toe so never especially stable at stops. I found the bike settled nicely with a pillion. Some are good tho and some awful.

Now post when youve fallen off with your pillion. I did twice...one immediately after the other because I had not told her I was ready when she jumped aboard just after being deposited in the gutter the first time (bad camber and she shifted her weight).

I actually find tipping the bike into corners easier with a pillion. With my regular pillion the bike actually feels more stable.

Admittedly filtering is an ****, but you can't have everything.

Default Best for Pillion - Pointy or Curvy?

Just thought of that

The missus might want to hop on back

Which would be most comfortable for her - and if it makes any difference, for me?

Did you increase the preload on the rear shock?

If not then the suspection might have "squashed" more than usual and the chain become a bit tighter that it otherwise would.

Have a look at the Suomy range of helmets. I think they do some more feminine designs so you might be able to find something that she likes from them.

Another good tip is to get some stuff called "Triboseat" and put that on your pillion seat. Stops your pillion sliding into you under braking and squashing your knackers against the fuel tank.

I think that some people wind the preload up on the rear shock. I tend to find a couple of extra PSI in the rear tyre helps to.

I used to dread taking pillions on the SV, never felt good in corners and always felt like it would lowside at any moment, was probably just me though. But I love it now on my new bike (I will resist saying the name) and now I really chuck it into corners. Plus it wheelies everywhere witha pillion which is not so good for the chain.
