Default Camshaft noise

Hi there
I have a 2001 SV 650 and have done 9000 miles with it, but over the last 1500 miles it has been making a very light ticking noise. The sound is coming from the top of the front pot. It only does this when it is hot and not straight away from start up. I pretty much know that it has probably got something to do with valve clearance adjustment. can anyone tell me if this is an easy problem to rectify ( shims ) or is it a serious problem?
Thanks
Simon

Tollerences on modern engines are pretty tight and changing 11 of the 16 shims on my Kwak last service made no diference whatsoever to sound or feel (But did give me the warm feeling that my engine was less likley to eat itself).
The Valve clearances on the SV are fairly easy to check, but as they're bucket & shim adjusters can be fiddly to change if you're not mechanically savvy.
You will probably find all is fine when you get in there (I don't think they're due for check until 15,000 miles on the SV) but if you're worried about it then it doesn't take too long to check.

Edit: Summary (Due to rambling incoherent post) I'm not sure I'd loose any sleep over it but if you're worried about it it's fairly easy to check valve clearances.

Default Cam noise

Thanks for that. If I were to take it into a dealer to get the job done could you please tell me how hard it will hit me in the pocket?. I dont want to touch it myself. Rather let the professionals do it.
Cheers

Couls be the clearences, or the cam chain adjusters. Just monitor it and see how its goes. Mines rattled for 30000 miles. Failing all this, get a louder exhaust

I'd say it's chain noise, not tappet noise... SVs don't tend to go much out of whack, but cam chain noise is very common.
