Hi all....first post here so be gentle.
Had my sv for about 3 months now, pointy 06, the greeny blu one. Been going around on a bandit for years but got into the sound of twins & so it had to be an sv. Decided to do my first mod to it & so Ive jumped in at the deep end & got a CCC end can.(well its the deep end for me !). ![]() wife cant believe I am am about to take a hacksaw to my bike & has put me right off doing it. I am worried about cutting it in the wrong place, my guess is that its about two inches from the weld on the pipe, right under the footrest. Can I get it off without moving the footrest as it looks very tight. I will probably ring CCC in morning to confirm position of cut, but if someone out there can tell me if Im right or not .... help would be appreciated cheers. |

Absolutely right.
just look at your new link pipe and imagine it as close to the weld as possible (without touching) there should be your 2 inches before the shoulder of the link pipe. you could remove foot rest with 3 bolts and hold out of the way, or at least strap the moveable footrest out of the way. Don't forget to protect the swingarm with folded over cloth etc. I drilled lots of tiny holes with a power drill to save effort with hacksaw. Just start the cut with hacksaw so drill doesn't go all over the place |

Do a search to be sure but 2 inches sounds about right. Remember to put a piece of wood or similar behind it to protect the swingarm, etc.

'easiest' to cut from underneath.
tying up the foot rest helps a bit-but it's still awkward. wear some googles/glasses - that's tiny flakes of metal that is. mark around the pipe with a pen, so you get the correct angle all the way round. Have a spare hacksaw blade or 2 handy. hey presto a motoGP end pipe and forearms like desperate dan. ![]() ![]() (That's with the link pipe fitted over the top.) You can just see the bulge about 2 inches up the pipe where it fits over the top. didn't take any pics of just the cut pipe-soz. |

I used a junior hacksaw and a big tie wrap. I tried first with tape as a marker guide but this was no good. Using a tie wrap instead was much better as the thick plastic helps keep the blade on track. With the tape I cut about 10deg off square, with the Tie Wrap i was within 1deg. It takes a while but the smaller hacksaw gives you more room to move in. I didn't take my foot rest off either. Finally I used WD40 to keep the blade lubricated and wash out the swarf while cutting. but try not to get this on the saw handle.
Take your time and you'll be ok. ![]() |

Measure 3 times coz you only get to cut once!!!
I did try with a hack saw but I had trouble starting the cut and knew it was going to take a while and my arm was going to fall off with all the effort! So I put some masking tape round as a guide, got a angle grinder with a metal cutting disk and took my time. I also started the bike up to blow out any flakes of metal.... SOUNDED NICE.... Tie up the foot rest so that it is not in your way, it helped me. I also put a piece of wood between the pipe and the swing arm so that I did not damage the swing arm. Hope this helps. |
