Default idle question on k5

noticed over last month or so the idle speed dropping from 1300 to 1050 from cold start , after about 3-4 miles idle goes up to 1200 , if you thrash the bike for a while idle goes up to 1400

when i had the bike new is seemed to idle at a constant 1400 hot or cold start , I would have thought the ecu controlled the idle & therefore should be more constant values ?

Is this normal
cheers Steve

My k6 does the same !

Cold idle at 1200 rpm , and hot idle at 1500rmp.

Probably something to do , with hot throttle bodies ?

it's got some sort of cold fast idle thats meant to idle it higher when started cold to warm it up quicker (), i believe this is seperate to automatic choke. Doesnt really explain faster idle while warm though..

Default Engine Idle

Hiya

I have a 2001 SV650s and I am also having idling problems. If the bike isnt used for a couple of days, the revs are under 1000 and so the bike wants to stall. If I put the choke on, the revs are up and down from 2000 to 4000 and then once the choke is off, it drops below 1000 again and I can hear the twins clunking. Twiddling the air switch cable does eventually solve it but it can take an hour of messing sometimes - any ideas why this could be happening?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Idle speed should only be adjusted on a hot engine, otherwise it'll be all over the shop. The Choke on the curveys will start the bike when it's cold then the revs will pick up after 20secconds or so as the bike warms up, you should be able to smoothly drop the revs off again using the Choke lever on the left bar, If it's not changing the revs smoothly one of the choke cables may be stuck.

On the pointies, again, the idle speed should be set when hot, but the choke is automatic meaning that for the first minute or so the revs will rise and fall a bit as the bike alters the mixture untill it is warm enough to run a ammount of fuel for those revs at that load.
