They don't check your documents as you leave or enter the country. Hopefully he should be ok with the things he has................insurance documents, MOT certificate, driving licence and registration documents should be carried, but we have never had ours checked in several trips abroad.

You will only need it if you are pulled or have an accident, both things you don't want to happen! Take what you have, they want proof of ownership.
Also make sure you have breakdown / travel insurance the covers repatriation of the bike to the UK should the worst happen. If you get pulled, that cover (sometimes called a carnet - but not strictly what it is) will re-assure cops that you a good egg. If you do have an accident, it really saves you some major hassle... (like import duty if the bike is a write off!) My daughter's car was scrap after blowing a head gasket in the French Alps but was brought home to be scrapped, beacuse cheaper than doing it in France with import taxes.... |

If you see signs suggesting radar - 'ripples' with a bike and a car and wording including "pour votre securité" - there *will* be a camera in the next few kilometers. Trouble is, as there are no road markings, I couldn't work out if they flash from the rear or the front! They're large (approx 3' x 2' , and only a foot or two above the ground. They're most battleship grey, with just a yellow/black diagonally striped border.
Have fun. |

Er, I've driven and riden in France quite a bit and I only ever take my license and my insurance policy number, never bothered with V5 or insurance cert, let alone an MOT cert. You don't need this to get in (just waving passport somewhere near the french border bloke is usually enough).
Are we really expected to show this stuff if stopped, I wouldn't want to travel with the V5 on me?
